Helen Roome is an Occupational therapist based in Kloof, Durban.
She loves being an occupational therapist. She chose OT because of its client-centred, whole-person focus; and its creative and practical approach to helping people with a variety of challenges. Helen graduated from Wits in 1996 and worked in both the public and private sectors. She has over 25 years experience in working with adults with a wide range of challenges.
6 Years ago she developed a special interest in chronic pain and completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Interdisciplinary Pain Management through UCT in 2019.
Helen’s practice focuses on offering a compassionate and practical approach to helping adults manage the daily challenges of their chronic pain and/or fatigue.
In 2021 Helen formed the “Relieve – Purpose beyond Pain” team with physiotherapist, Juli-Ann Riley. Where they offer an interdisciplinary approach to chronic pain and fatigue from their shared practice space in Kloof, Durban. She is registered with the Health professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and belongs to the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA).
Helen is also a founding member of the OT Pain Management Group (OTPMG) – a special interest group of the OTASA that provides training in pain management for other occupational therapists.
